How Many?
Posted in Scrapbooking on 03/02/2010 11:53 am by Willow Tree CraftsWe are often asked how many layouts you can make with the kits. It’s a difficult question to answer as it depends how much you like to put on your layouts, and if you like single or double pages. You probably could put everything onto a page and just get 1 page out of it, but you can get lots more too. It also depends on exactly which kit you are using. I took home one of the MME Quite Contrary Jack and Jill kits, and made 7 layouts from it!
Scrapathon: Preparing your supplies
Posted in Scrapathon on 07/08/2009 07:04 am by Willow Tree CraftsThe supplies you will need to complete all of the layouts will vary depending on your theme (or lack of a theme) and your particular preferences and style. We don’t expect you to copy the layouts completely, but adjust them as you go to suit your photos and memories.
Things to consider:
- Bazzill Cardstock – the great scrapping staple. You’re bound to have lots of this around in all sorts of colours. I find it’s easiest to just keep my big box of Bazzill next to me, then I can just pick a colour up as I’m working. Some people like a mix of colours, if you’re working on a theme album and want to use the same colours throughout the album, just stock up on those colours. For those of you that only scrap on Black, White, and Kraft, I’m sure you’ll be able to work with that too.
- Patterned Paper – For those of you working on a theme album, you might want to collect papers together that suit your theme, they might be the same colours, or the same type of designs. You might want to use a collection pack from one manufacturer, or just sort out a selection of papers that you just want to use, old or new, just put a pile of papers on one side of your desk to use as you go along.
- Embellishments – We all have favourite, or not so favourite embellishments, if flowers are your thing, grab a bowl and put a selection of your stash in it, pop it on your desk, and you can just dip into it as you scrap. You can do the same for anything else you like to use, ribbons, beads etc… Hunt out those boxes full of brads and eyelets, and put them somewhere you can grab them easily, you don’t want to spend time searching for things. If your album has a theme, collect all your embellishments for that theme together, your theme might be weddings, so anything heart shaped, chipboard shapes, felt, buttons, brads etc, or you might have chosen a colour theme, so grab all your embellishments in that colour.
When you’ve got it all together, this is your work kit. Hopefully, everything you want will be to hand, and if you’ve missed something, you can always grab it later…no stress…Don’t worry too much now about if you’ll use it or not. If you thing you might, put it in. It’s much easier to put it back next week, than to try and find it in the middle of a layout!
Sharing – You can share your Scrapathon project(s) with us at Flickr. We have a Scrapathon group set up that you can just add your photos to for us all to see.
Scrapathon Preparation
Posted in Scrapathon on 07/21/2008 02:33 pm by Willow Tree Craftsit’s a busy time getting ready for the Scrapathon, but here’s a few details about what will be happening.
We’ll be having complete layouts, classes and challenges over the weekend, so do join us, and share your creativity with us too.
We’ll be using some of our favourite supplies, including our new stamps, particularly Zara, and the Large Journalling Block. We’ve all got favourite styles and designs, so find a stamp alphabet that you like, medium sized and we’ll get lots of use out of it. Other useful stamps are date/calendar stamps, and our Journalling Spots will come in very useful.
Make sure you’ve got plenty of adhesive, and some ink pads, black, brown and white are great basics and go with almost everything!
A good set of journalling pens will be useful, we’ll be doing a lot of hand journalling and it’s so much quicker and easier than using a computer.
You will need quite a lot of cardstock and patterned paper to do everything, but rather than pack up the colours we used (I only have a son so I ‘m using a lot of blue and green these days!) have your cardstock to hand. It’s always good to have a really good supply of basics, Blackbird, Avalanche, and Quick Sand are some of my favourites, they work with anything and by just adding a bit of colour you can completely change the look of a page.
You’ll also need your basic toolkit, ruler, trimmer, adhesives, and a pair of scallop scissors will be useful, or the Fiskars Treading Water punch.
For quick Journalling Spots we’ll be using some of the Scenic Route sets, such as the Sumner Journalling Die Cuts.
As for Photos, we’ll be using quite a few 6×4, 5×7, 8×6 and a couple of 10×8. Some layouts will also need smaller photos, so you can either print out smaller versions, or crop down some 6×4 size prints.
We’ll have more exact lists available later in the week, so check back for more details.
